For this they needed expensive spices from distant lands. That explains why Christmas biscuits and cakes were made only for this important religious festival. With this in mind, it is not surprising that the earliest evidence of the use of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg can be traced back to rich monasteries and convents.

The Toy Worlds Museum Basle will take visitors back to this fascinating time. Rare scents and unique tastes as well as biscuit cutters and other utensils that are necessary to bake Christmas biscuits and cakes can be discovered. For the duration of the special exhibition, biscuits will be baked every Wednesday to Sunday, from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. During this time, visitors are cordially invited to taste the exquisite Christmas sweets.
