The exhibits – on display for the first time in Switzerland – come from one of the largest private collections in Europe. All of these dolls have one thing in common: they have no lower body, hence the name “half dolls”. These sophisticated and decorative busts were used mainly to decorate or conceal everyday household items such as teapots, sweet tins, telephones, etc.

The porcelain “half dolls” will spirit visitors back to the time of their creation, when people set out to provoke and shock with a “bob hairstyle” and the elements of the “Art Deco” period.

For our younger visitors aged 6 and above, workshops will be held regularly. The children can decorate their own “half dolls” under expert supervision and take them home afterwards. The figures were specially cast for the workshops using original moulds.
