The oldest-known reference to a decorated Christmas tree, which was fixed to a stand, was mentioned in a hand-written document dated 1604. In those days the traditional Christmas tree holders were often simple wooden stakes or buckets of sand. Following the first creation of cast-iron stands in 1866, extravagant metal works of art were manufactured with figurines, ornaments and integrated mechanisms.

The highlights of our varied special exhibition are the artistically decorated stands from the late 19th century and first half of the 20th century, which in some cases were multi-functional and demanded great skills to produce. Come and admire the Gardens of Paradise, metal stands styled with branches and a revolving musical Christmas tree stand with original metal records playing Christmas carols.
