A daughter often had the exact replica of her mother’s service in miniature, with exactly the same number of items and the same design. Frequent motifs were old Far Eastern decorations, flower patterns, children, toys and animals. Characters from La Fontaine’s fables were very popular as well as the fairytale figure Little Red Riding Hood. The teddy bear became a beloved theme at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition, the Walt Disney figures Mickey Mouse, Snow White and their friends appeared in the 1930s.

This exhibition shows how varied and important these children’s services were in the past.
