They sit cosily together enjoying a meal, women gossip on their balconies, various tradespeople are shown going about their work. Of course, the "Natività" is an essential part: Mary with the Baby Jesus and Joseph in a ruin-like temple filled with shepherds, angels and the three Magi. This typical Neapolitan nativity scene provides a wonderful "miniature" insight into the life and traditions of bygone Naples. The nativity scene and its figures were made by hand over a period of many months by the Neapolitan nativity scene artist Mario Capuano exclusively for this special exhibition. The Capuano family has been involved in the art of nativity scene crafting since as long ago as 1840; one of the last important works was an impressive nativity scene for Juan Carlos, the King of Spain.
